Working during COVID has its challenges. I’ve had trouble finding time to get focused work done, especially with the kids at home. We’re all hoping the pandemic will end soon, but in the meantime, here are some productivity techniques I’ve been using that I wanted to share.
The Pomodoro Technique - The Pomodoro Technique is a simple but effective strategy. You choose something to work on, then set a 25-minute timer to work on that task. When the timer goes off, take a 5-minute break, then restart the timer. After four rounds, take a longer break. I like this online timer, and I find I’m really productive when working on something using the Pomodoro Technique.
Work when you work best - COVID has forced many of us to fit more work into less time, especially with everyone in the family at home. I’ve had success prioritizing work during times I’m most likely to be productive, like when the kids are sleeping or when I can get into the office for a few hours. I try to focus on deep work during these times and save things like checking email for times when I’ll have more distractions.
Take time off - Especially when working from home, it can be tempting to be working or thinking about work all the time. I’ve had to be more intentional about taking time off. Scheduling outings with my family has helped me take time off, which helps me recharge for work and be more productive during those hours.
Do you have any tips to share that have worked for you?
